Squash on Rankelo

What a squash league looks like here.

Rankelo is built around a sport abstraction: every sport brings its own scoring rules, and the leagues, fixtures and standings work the same whatever you play. This is what squash brings.

PAR-11, checked

Games run to 11 and must be won by two, so 11-9 and 13-11 both count and 11-10 is refused before it reaches the table.

Best of five, or best of three

The WSF standard is the default. Club box leagues that play best of three switch format when they create the league, and nothing else changes.

Everyone plays everyone

A round robin rather than a ladder: every pairing is scheduled once or twice, and everyone can see which matches they still owe.

League types

  • Squash— one player per side

Players are ranked individually; every result belongs to the two people who played it.

How it works

From idea to squash standings in four steps.

  1. 1

    Create a league

Pick squash, choose best of five or best of three, and set how many times each pairing meets in the box.

  2. 2

    Add the players

A name is enough — they do not need an account. Add an email too and they link to their own match history automatically the day they register.

  3. 3

    Open the league

Rankelo generates the fixtures for every pairing, once or as many times as you set. If the roster changes later the schedule reconciles — matches already played are kept.

  4. 4

    Play

A player enters the games — 11-9, 8-11, 11-6 — from the club. The box reorders instantly and everyone sees who is on top.

Scoring & standings

How squash is scored in Rankelo.

Squash is scored on PAR-11: a match is a run of games, each game a race to 11 points, won by two. Rankelo enforces the ending as well as the target — a game that stops one point short of the margin is rejected rather than quietly counted.

A race to a targetEach row is a race to a point target won by a margin, and the row tally decides the match.

Points systems a squash league can pick from

Chosen per league, and changeable at any time — switch it and every match already played is re-scored.

  • 3 for a win, 1 for a game taken in defeat (default)
  • 2 for a win, 1 for a game taken in defeat
  • 3 for a win, 1 for a loss
  • 2 for a win, 1 for a loss
  • 1 for a win, nothing for a loss
  • 3 for a win in straight games, 2 and 1 when it goes the distance

Traditional British scoring — hand-in-hand-out to nine, with the receiver choosing at 8-8 — is not supported, because that choice cannot be recovered from a final score and so cannot be validated from one. PAR-11 has been the tournament standard since 2008.

FAQ

Squash leagues, answered.

It runs a round robin, which is what most box leagues are: every player is scheduled against every other, once or twice, and the table orders itself on results. Promotion and relegation between boxes is manual — run each box as its own league and move players between them at the end of a round.
