A football league table that keeps itself.

Rankelo is a free football league app for five-a-side, work and Sunday leagues. Name the teams, and every fixture is generated when the league opens. Someone enters the score after the match and the table applies three points for a win, one for a draw and the goal difference.

No credit card. No cap on leagues or players. Signing up takes a minute.

Football on Rankelo

What a football league looks like here.

Rankelo is built around a sport abstraction: every sport brings its own scoring rules, and the leagues, fixtures and standings work the same whatever you play. This is what football brings.

One score, not a run of sets

Football is the first family in Rankelo whose winner is a sum rather than a tally of sets or games won. A result is one goal count per side, and the higher total takes it.

Draws count, from the first fixture

A level score is a legal result worth a point. The drawn column is shown because football allows draws, not because one has happened — so the table never changes width mid-season.

Home and away in one setting

Set each pairing to meet twice and Rankelo generates a double round robin. Sides carry no venue meaning, so the two meetings are simply two fixtures.

League types

  • Football— a named team per side

A team is a name that competes — it carries its own record, and squad size is not modelled.

How it works

From idea to football standings in four steps.

  1. 1

    Create a league

Pick football, name the teams, and choose the points system — 3-1-0 as standard — and how many times each pairing meets.

  2. 2

    Add the players

A name is enough — they do not need an account. Add an email too and they link to their own match history automatically the day they register.

  3. 3

    Open the league

Rankelo generates the fixtures for every pairing, once or as many times as you set. If the roster changes later the schedule reconciles — matches already played are kept.

  4. 4

    Play

Someone enters 3-1 after the match. The table applies the points, the goals for and against and the goal difference on the spot.

Scoring & standings

How football is scored in Rankelo.

Football belongs to the aggregate-score family: a match is one final score, the higher total wins, and a level score is a draw. It is the shape every league table you have ever read is built on, and the only one of the three families in Rankelo where a side can be outscored across the season and still finish top.

One aggregate scoreA single total per side, and the higher one wins — the only family where a level score can count.

Points systems a football league can pick from

Chosen per league, and changeable at any time — switch it and every match already played is re-scored.

  • 3 for a win, 1 for a draw, nothing for a loss (default)
  • 2 for a win, 1 for a draw, nothing for a loss — the pre-1981 rule
  • 1 for a win, nothing for a loss

The consolation presets other sports offer are deliberately absent, and not as a matter of taste: they pay nothing for a draw, so a football league on one would score a 2-2 nothing at all while paying the 3-0 loser a point for scoring. Extra time and penalties are not modelled — a league that settles a fixture on penalties records the score it finished at, or switches draws off and enters the winning side ahead.

Everything a football league actually needs.

Standings that follow your rules

Three points for a win and one for a draw, then head-to-head, goal difference and goals scored — the league table every football supporter can already read, recalculated on every result.

Automatic fixtures

Every pairing × your chosen number of meetings, generated in one click when the league opens.

Players without accounts

Add someone by name and the league can start right away. They register with the same email later and pick up their matches.

FAQ

Football leagues, answered.

Yes. Squad size is not modelled — a team is a name that competes — so five-a-side, seven-a-side and eleven-a-side are all the same football league with different teams in it. Futsal has a catalogue entry of its own if you want the league called by its name.

Next Sunday could have a league table.

Create a league in a minute, add your group, and let Rankelo do the counting.
